Friday Finds

I had blast teaching a Thrifting 101 class through Longview Community College's Community Education program.  I was thrilled to have five students learn about local thrift stores, their missions, and of course, how to shop!!  I hope to teach the class again in the future.  If you are interested, let me know!!

This week I was able to shop with my students at Goodwill in Lee's Summit and snagged some awesome deals!!

Jacket
$3.99
I immediately spotted this jacket as I walked in the door.  It is perfect to throw on as I'm heading out the door to the gym.  I love the fun zippers and thumb holes.

Vintage Dress
$5.99

I couldn't pass up this dress!!  Yes, it's black and I already have a couple of black dresses, but look at this beauty!!  I love the bow detail on the shoulders and the simplicity of the cut of the dress.  It has some major shoulder pads, so I am debating of getting rid of those!!

Red Sweater
$2.99

I was looking for a basic red sweater and this one is perfect!!

Basic Henley
$.99 (1/2 price)

Mulan DVD
$1.99

 Children's Place Sweater
$1.99

Gymboree Sweater Dress/Tunic
$1.99

This is adorable!!  I can see this with fun striped tights or leggings!!  It's only a year old - it was manufactured for Gymboree's 2014 Holiday line.

 Tribal Pants
$4.99

I've been on the hunt for some summer/vacation items and these pants fit the bill.  They have an elastic waist band and they are plenty long!!

Also at Goodwill, I picked up a tub of wooden beads for a friend for just $2.99.  She was thrilled!!

This week, I also swung by two other favorite thrift stores, Majr-Thrift and Family Thrift Store.

Gap Tunic
$.99

Denim Skirts (2 different sizes)
$.99 each

Gymboree Corduroy Dress
.99

Waffle Knit Top (2 of them)
$1.98 each

My sons love shirts like these to layer in the winter time and so I picked up a couple in different sizes and colors.

Old Navy Jacket
.99

Mickey Top
$1.99
Our family is planning a big vacation to Florida this year and this is my first official item for the trip!!   I will be on the hunt for more Disney items this spring!!

Mirrored Tray
$3.98

I adore this tray!!  It will be perfect to display some of my jewelry on my dresser.   I need to tighten the screws holding it together and polish the silver.  I may end up painting it white as well.  We will see!!

Any favorites??

Sunday Style - Dots on Dots

I love polka dots, what can I say!!  This outfit makes me think of June Cleaver - very classy, but I think I've given it a modern twist.

I first started out the day with this gorgeous vintage coat, I picked up at an estate sale last summer.  I love how regal I feel in this coat.  My mom had to do some work to the hem of the coat, but it was worth the work to make this coat feel and look new again.  She also mentioned she thought my great grandmother had a coat almost identical to this one!!

The three clothing pieces I've chosen are all thrifted!! I picked up the skirt this summer at Goodwill for $4.99, my Gap blouse is a fun swiss dot polka dot button up that I picked up at Maj-r Thrift for under $5, and my hot pink cardigan is from Salvation Army that I picked up on their Black Friday 1/2 price sale for just $1.49.   You can check out my other great finds here!!

My boots are and end of the season find from Sears and my necklace is an online find!!

I'm excited to wear each of these pieces year round and mixing them up with other items in my closet.

From head to toe, my outfit came in under $35!!

Enjoy your Sunday!!

Mixing It Up

One of the trends, that I have kind of shied away from is print mixing.  I have attempted it before and it just never quite looked right, so I would change my outfit before heading out the door.  Then I finally found a combo,  I couldn't wait to try!! I wear lots of stripes and polka dots, so I decided that mixing the two patterns together would be a great place to start!!

I follow a few fashion blogs, and Jessica at WhatIWore is one of my favorites.  Her style is just classic!!  She mixes prints so effortlessly!!  I added a few more items inspired by Jessica to my clothing wish list!!

Last month, I picked up this amazing J Crew blouse at my Salvation Army Family Thrift Store.  The best part was it was new with tags and retails for $49.50!!  I've mentioned my love for J Crew before and this top is 100% classic J Crew.

I added my favorite vintage polka dot skirt, Born sandals, belt, beaded necklace, and my gorgeous fisherman's basket purse.  All of my clothing items are second hand finds!!

Total cost of my outfit was $18!  I think I'll be wearing this outfit several times this summer!!

Be Thrifty!!

Friday Finds

One of my favorite thrift stores in KC is a little Family Thrift Store at Bannister and Blue Ridge.  It's been one of my favorites since I moved to KC in 1998.  Our first little rental house was just a few miles from here and I would shop at the near by Aldi and Price Chopper and I think that is how I stumbled upon this little hidden treasure!!

It had been several months since I had visited Family Thrift, so this week I had a chance to go and check out the deals!!   Today was manly a baby girl clothing day, but I did find a few other fun things.

What little girl doesn't need a ballet skirt??
$.99

Tea is an expensive brand sold in places like Nordstrom.  I have a found a few other Tea items at thrift stores and they hold up well in the wash.   I can see pairing this with jeans or a pair of cords.
$1.48

Children's Place Summer Tank
$.75

I'm always on the hunt for Scrabble boards.  Since Christmas, I hadn't found a single one until today!!
$1.98

Oilily is a European brand that you don't find secondhand very often, except for Ebay.  On Oilily's website, this would have cost me about $60.  I love the mix of patterns and the hidden little deer in the dress/tunic print.
$.99

Skirts! Skirts! and more Skirts!!
$.99 for the top skirt
$1.48 each for the bottom two skirts

Love classic movies
$1.98

This is my absolute favorite find of the day!!  This vintage dress is absolutely gorgeous in person.  I'm a sucker for vintage. When I sent a picture of this to mom, she said this is a totally Annie dress and I have to agree!!  And my little curly haired girl will look adorable in this dress!!
$.99

I also hit Maj-r Thrift in Grandview.  I don't always like their prices, but they always have two tags for 50% off and two tags for 75% off and that's what I usually look for.  They also text me sales and special offers.  Today I was able to use to use a 50% coupon on one item - yippee!!

Ann Taylor Loft Blouse
$4.99 (50% off)
Love the shade of gray of this blouse.  It's very full and flawy!!  Can wait to dress it up!!

Embroidered Dress
$1.49 (50% off)
This dress is sooooo stinkin' cute!!  My daughter is going to rock this dress.  I wish I could find something like this for me!!

Vintage Fishing Basket Purse
$4.99
This purse is sublime!!  I'm always on the lookout for vintage/unique purses and this purse is both vintage and unique!!  The coolest features is the adjustable strap.  I'll be carrying this a lot this summer!!

Happy Thrifting!!
